The phone interview for a job in Vancouver December 22, 2007

The phone interview today with the not-for-profit in Vancouver went really well. He called my references, and then called me back later in the afternoon to ask me to come in to meet him on January 11th for a 2nd interview. He told my boss at the PT job that I seemed “too good to be true,” so that’s a really good sign. Also, this not-for-profit is doing a lot of work with my PT job, so during the interview we got to talking a lot about the upcoming events that I’ll probably help to organize – whether it’s working for the PT job or for this not-for-profit is yet to be determined at this point I guess. :)

As for pay, it was kind of an awkward part of the conversation. I couldn’t get him to tell me what the salary range was for the job, without me telling him first what I was looking for. I told him that ideally, I would like to stay within the same salary range that I was making at my previous job, which was around $48k. I think he flinched, because then he asked what my bottom-out dollar would be … and I told him $42k. If he ends up offering the job, I would try to counter for something higher. Vancouver is a really expensive city to live in.

Anyway, tomorrow looks like a busy day. I have to clean house in anticipation for Christmas with the entire family, then do some last minute Christmas shopping … work at the PT job, and then meet up with the guy that I’m seeing, and a bunch of friends at a local pub.
