Well, I survived the 4 hr. drive to the interview and back … although it was sketchy. The roads were maintained a lot better than I thought they would be, but it was snowing pretty hard, and the wind just kept swirling the snow around, making it hard to see anything.
The interview itself went pretty well. It was quite intimidating – a 3 panel interview, each of them with their own desk, set up in a semi-circle around me. I did fairly well, and had to write a press release while I was there as well. They also said that they were going to try to reclassify the position from a Coordinator to a Manager, since the successful candidate would report directly to the CAO. The salary range is between $51-63k for the Coordinator position … and if turned into a Manager position, it would obviously reflect in a higher salary range.
It’s an interesting job, and to be honest, a lot more suited to my skills and qualifications than the job I was interviewing for in Edmonton … but there are a lot of things to consider. Living in a small town has its financial drawbacks – there is no public transit system, and no Greyhound passes through … so I would almost be forced to buy a car if I wanted to get anywhere (the city is pretty spread out) … and housing isn’t as cheap as I thought it would be, given the fact that it’s such a small community.
At any rate, they gave me a take-home assignment that seems pretty intense, so I’ve got to start working on that ASAP. Although, since I’m sitting here and typing this post in the Edmonton airport, I suppose I could be working on it right now.
