Christmas is just around the corner

With Christmas less than two months away, I’m getting a little nervous about how I’m going to afford to buy presents. I don’t have anything saved up for Christmas presents. My mom’s present is taken care of, so that’s not a big deal, and my friends and I stopped giving each other gifts a long time ago so I don’t have to worry about that. But I really wanted to get my sister something nice this year … and I thought I would be able to, as this is my first year out of debt. I know that it’s the thought that counts, and I know she’d be happy with just about anything I got her, but I just wanted to splurge and do something fun with her.

Two years ago for her birthday, I took her to see the Death Cab For Cutie/Franz Ferdinand concert in Vancouver, and that was awesome. I want to do something like that again because I know she enjoyed it, but with limited funds, I’m going to have to get creative.

My sister and I always buy our family presents together (which we started doing in high school, when we were both broke), and for some reason our dad is the toughest one to buy for every year. I especially wanted to do something nice for him this year. He’s had some tough times medically over the years, and he’s not quite the same as he used to be (he had a pretty bad stroke a few years ago). He loves sports, so I wanted to take him to a Canucks game, since he’s never been to an NHL game before … but those tickets are so out of my price range. When the BF and I went to see a game last year, our tickets together were $350!!!

It’s going to take some research and some creativity, but I will make this Christmas work! :)
