I applied for about 10 jobs today. Basically I’m applying for any job that looks interesting and pays a decent wage, regardless of how much experience they’re asking for. I mean, as long as they’re asking for under 3 years experience, I’m throwing in my resume. Can’t hurt.
I think it might be time to lower my expectations when it comes to finding a job. I think I lucked out when I landed this job as my first job out of college. It’s a non-entry level government position (they were asking for 3-4 years of experience, and I had 5 months of semi-related experience) … and I’ve been applying for jobs in a comparable salary range. That might not be fair of me, because I technically only have 1 year of full-time experience under my belt. I want a salary around $50k, because I’m making $48k right now. Is that unrealistic? Most of my friends make well below that amount. Perhaps I should be looking at jobs that are more entry-level, and that are around $35k instead. Even though that would mean I’d be priced out of buying a condo until I got myself back up to the $50k range. When do you stop becoming entry-level? After 3 years? 5 years? That’s a long time.
At work, one of my friends is going on a maternity leave starting at the end of January. I would probably have a decent chance at getting that 1-year contract. The pay would be okay (about $24/hr), but it doesn’t really have anything to do with my education, and she’s always bored at work. I’m going to apply for it anyway when it gets posted next month just to keep all my options open.
Anyway, a few more eBay items sold, so I shipped them off yesterday, and I have to take a few more to the post office tomorrow. Haven’t sold that much, but I just transferred $215 from my PayPal account into my chequing, so it’s a start. :)
